The space
THE GREAT OUTDOORSAs well as walks closer to Fletchers the South Devon Coast offers miles of glorious walking with superb views and plenty to see. To the north and only 10 minutes by car is the Dartmoor National Park with 365 square miles of moor, streams, rivers and forest. High granite tors, prehistoric remains and enchanting hamlets and villages make Dartmoor a very special place.FOR CHILDRENWithin 20 minutes drive are the Woodlands Adventure park, the Pennywell Farm and adventure park, the River Dart adventure park and numerous smaller attractions for sunny and not so sunny days.GARDENSThere are half a dozen National Trust properties and gardens within easy reach of Fletchers and a day trip away are the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, the world famous Eden Project and the Lost gardens of Heligan. During the summer months there are many private gardens open as part of the National Gardens Scheme. Look for the yellow signs.TOWNSTotnes is the nearest town to Fletchers, famous for it’s eclectic and alternative lifestyle but with a great range of independent shops and a refreshing lack of chain stores. Its Norman castle, medieval Guildhall and many Elizabethan buildings stretch down to the River Dart. Lively and different Totnes has a twice weekly market and a great selection of bars, cafes and pubs with regular live music. Nearby at Dartington is the famous hall, gardens and arts centre as well as the Cider Press craft and shopping centre.Dartmouth at the mouth of the River Dart is the place for boats large and small with a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The castle, museum and the famous Britannia Royal Naval College are all worth a visit.Kingsbridge at the head of its estuary is a good stopping off point on the way to the beaches of the south and west coast of the South Hams while Salcombe is a mecca for sailors. To the north the Dartmoor gateway towns of South Brent, Buckfastleigh (with its famous abbey) and Ashburton are worth a visit before climbing up to the moor itself. The Torbay towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham offer everything from shopping and sailing to the bucket and spade beach delights of Paignton and the fishing port of Brixham.For city life Exeter and Plymouth are both 40 minutes by car.SPORTSailing and Watersports are to the fore in the South Hams with facilities for boat hire and launching at Totnes, Dittisham, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Torbay. Canoeing, kayaking, diving and sea and coarse fishing are all readily available. There are 6 Golf courses within easy reach with tennis at Totnes and Blackawton, horseriding at Broadhempston and on Dartmoor, rock climbing at Buckfastleigh and on Dartmoor, surfing at Bigbury, horse racing at Newton Abbot and Exeter, football at Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay and Rugby at Exeter. Swimming pools are in Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Torquay. Also swimming in the sea of course! Boat trips varying from 12 seater canoe adventures to large pleasure boats and nature watching or fishing trips start from many centres in the area. Steam trains run from Totnes and Kingswear.

Guests are able to walk through the nearby fields and streams as it’s owned by Fletchers Combe (70 acres). However, please bear in mind that we rear livestock so make sure to close gates behind you and don’t harm the animals!

Widcombe Grange is a lovely, large Victorian stone built house and cottage sleeping 24 guests in 12 bedrooms. It’s an excellent house for a large group to stay in comfort, with space to be together to dine, cook, play and have fun. It’s set in 23 acres of stunning landscaped grounds with woodlands, lakes, orchard and paddocks. The heated swimming pool is open May – September in the walled garden where there are loungers and picnic benches – there is a hot tub in the courtyard for all year round enjoyment. There are 7 bedrooms in the main house for 14 guests and 5 bedrooms in the cottage for 10 guests. All the ground floor rooms in the main house are large enough for your whole group to enjoy and socialise together. The dining table seats 24 in comfort and is wonderful for a celebration dinner.The coach house is a great games room with table tennis, pool table and table football – it is also ideal for after dinner dancing for a large group of friends or family. It is also licensed for weddings along with the pergola outside on the ornamental pond.

The space
Widcombe Grange is a wonderful big house that’s great for groups with lots of entertaining space inside the house and loads of space outside in the 23 acres for activities & fun. The swimming pool is a lovely focal point in the walled garden, where you can have a barbecue too, or play games on the adjoining lawn. The hot tub in the courtyard by the house is a delightful spot for relaxing and chatting with friends and family.There are 2 lakes, one with a waterside pergola and the other (larger) lake has a rowing boat. We are able to arrange catering and activities for you during your stay, if you want to make it extra special. The more energetic will love the Long Room for a game of table tennis or pool.The party room.Leading off from the dining room is the air conditioned party room with an integrated sound and lighting system, which is ideal for staging your own disco and can also be used for formal presentations. The space
The history of the house stems from the Quaker origins of a large west country mill owners family. The house also shows the families early associations with banking, mountaineering, ski-ing, and railways. First built by Thomas Fox in 1797, currently owned by Ben & Victoria Fox, it has been enjoyed by the Big House Company guests for 25 years. The history of the house has been blended into a delightful space for groups to enjoy time together with 2 large dining rooms, 2 sitting rooms, a games room and a party room.

Getting in:
Guests have sole use of the house and grounds. We have a small office onsite, manned during the week, so that we can provide information and assistance if required.

Berry House is an elegant Georgian house on the dramatic North Devon coast, with lovely countryside and coastal views. Berry is great for up to 24 guests in 10 bedrooms. The interior is delightfully furnished, elegant and comfortable. The dining room has a table large enough for your whole group to eat together with ease, it’s great for a special celebration meal. There are squashy sofas in the drawing room where you can enjoy the roaring open fire and a TV lounge if you want a big screen event. For extra entertainment there’s table football and pool table. Outside, there is a large hot tub and barbecue area. The large bedrooms are all individually decorated to a high standard, some with en-suite and all first floor bedrooms have views over the surrounding countryside. Two of the bedrooms and a bathroom are on the ground floor, if accessibility is a consideration for your group.The games barn adjacent to the house provides great indoor fun with table tennis, basket ball and 5 a side football. The pebble beach is just a short walk from the house and there is a pub in the village too.

The space
The History.Its origins date back to mediaeval times, but the house was enlarged and completely remodeled in the 1760s to provide the home for the land agent of the neighbouring Hartland Abbey Estate. Workmanship was to exceptionally high standards for the time, including fine paneling to many of the rooms. The house remained remarkably untouched until acquired relatively recently by the present owners who have undertaken its painstaking and sympathetic restoration in 2006/7. Great care has been taken to retain the historic character of the building whilst discreetly incorporating the best modern services and to provide a great sense of contemporary style without the feeling of being ??too new!

This is a grand victorian country house which has many original features including an oak panelled drawing room with a grand oak fireplace, a victorian dining room with open fire, original cornicing in most of the large public rooms and bedrooms, a conservatory room with a piano and pool table and a cosy private bar which you stock and run yourselves. The house kitchen is very well equipped for catering for large numbers and there is a separate catering kitchen should you wish to hire caterers for a special meal or for your entire stay!

The space
Welcome to Fawley Court! Set amongst beautiful gardens in the heart of the Wye Valley, your group will be stunned from the moment they arrive at Fawley Court. Whether you choose to spend time with the family, relaxing by the fire or celebrate in style and enjoy some drinks by the pool, your time at Fawley Court will become treasured memories!Inside the house, you will find our ‘Great Hall’, with a huge fire place and seating for up to 36, you can really dine in style! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you will need to prepare and enjoy a fantastic meal, whether you decide to cook it yourself or bring in a professional chef.Leading off from the Great Hall there are a further three reception rooms. The Drawing Room is perfect for entertaining, the snug has comfy seating and a TV and the lounge has a card table and chess board.At the other end of the house our fantastic indoor pool can be found.
